The Huntington Hebrew Congregation of Huntington, known locally as the Huntington Jewish Center (HJC) is a Jewish synagogue, located in Huntington Village in the Town of Huntington, in New York’s Suffolk County. HJC was founded by ten Jewish families in 1907, making it the oldest synagogue in the Town of Huntington and one of the oldest on Long Island. HJC is a recognized and very visible center of Jewish worship, Jewish learning, Jewish activities, and support for Israel and the Jewish People.
The MISSION of the Huntington Hebrew Congregation of Huntington is to approach, engage and nurture individuals on their lifelong Jewish journeys, from our Early Childhood Center, Religious School, Youth Groups, to those most senior. We offer meaningful opportunities for communal and self-expression and worship rooted in the Conservative Jewish tradition and in connection to the Jewish people and the State of Israel.
Our Core Values
Tikkun Olam – “repairing the world” by striving for social justice and caring for the environment. We house the homeless from the Huntington community on winter nights, feed the hungry weekly, and offer emergency shelter, warmth, and communication to our neighbors and the extended community.
Acceptance of diversity – embracing all generations and Jewish family structures, including GLBT, and inter-marrieds. We are a holy community that respects each individual as infinitely valued.
Religious services – holding participatory daily, weekly, and holiday adult and children’s worship services, based on accessible and understandable Judaism – Torah and tradition that is close to human hearts and abilities.
Communal spiritual connections – observing Jewish holidays with other synagogues, and secular holidays with other faith based traditions.
Communal social connections – in our schools, youth groups, Sisterhood and Men’s Club, monthly community concert series, and in our highly successful and well attended biannual musical theatrical productions.
Israel connections – Sponsoring communal political and cultural presentations, discussions and films on the various aspects of Israeli life in support of the State of Israel..
Thoughtfully evolving – open and responsive to contemporary challenges and opportunities within the framework of the Conservative movement
Egalitarian – full participation of men and women
