The Inclusion Committee has had several projects in the works during the last two years.  Our handicap bathroom is now fully ADA compliant, our assisted hearing system is fully functional and soon we will have a ramp to our Bima! Our goal is to make HJC  a welcoming space for anyone who wishes to be a full participant in the life of our community.

We are focusing on making sure that publicity for all HJC events invites congregants to inform the office of any accommodations they might need to be able to participate, such as requesting transportation to or special seating at an event or notifying us of special diet requests. We also want to make certain that our process for integrating new members into HJC invites them to make known any specific accommodations they may need to be able to fully participate.

We are teaming up with the Social Justice Committee to provide programming during Pride Month. In connection with Jewish Disability Awareness month,  which is in February, we will be showing a film by a documentary filmmaker , who is himself on the Autism spectrum , and who investigates the question, “what do people with disabilities pray for?” This film maker is also the grandson of a longtime .HJC member and an active advocate in the Jewish world for individuals who live with challenges to full participation in Jewish life. A discussion with the filmmaker will follow the film.

We invite you to share your suggestions with us on how we can make HJC a comfortable and welcoming space for everyone. Please reach out to Miriam Eckstein-Koas or Lesley Stark .

We would love to hear from you!
